Heaven’s Gate
Far beyond clouds somewhere deep in universe, sound of gong signalled arrival of a new entrant at Heaven’s gate. Chitragupt looked up from his desk and was aghast to see a semi-burnt soul of a lady standing in front. A per set procedure, red coloured Bahi-Khata was opened to verify the antecedents of the deceased. Without taking his eyes off the relevant page, he told her - “As per given calculations you are 30 years early. No one can get beyond this point and attain Moksha till their assigned days at Earth are complete. You need to go back.”
“Oh. If that’s the case then please send me to a place where Earthlings won’t burn me again for dowry. I do not want to suffer the pain of melting flesh while being alive. Can I get a wealthy family to obviate repeat of such horrible death?”-she requested.
Chitragupt looked at the soothing bright aura of God for approval and then said- “Okay, wish granted. I am assigning you womb of a rich woman in Bharatvarsh.” After necessary endorsement in Bahi-Khata she was put on an ray of light emanating from God and going down towards Earth.
Few months went by. Chitragupt- the book keeper of all souls and gatekeeper of Heaven and Hell, was mulling over on how to manage the overcrowded Nark Lok when gong disrupted his thoughts. Surprisingly there wasn’t any soul at sight.
“Look down. I am here" -a frail voice drew his attention.
As Chitragupt lunged to find out, he saw a fragile 5 month old fetus clinging onto one of the legs of his desk. With remorse he opens the page of that soul and was surprised reading the details- “Despite given family of choice, you still couldn’t complete pending 30 years? I’m sorry, but as per rules you have to return again.”
“I’m not at fault. Mamma wanted a boy and aborted me before birth. I heard her saying so. I shouted that I will be a good baby if she will let me stay but perhaps my cries could not reach her. Please help me” -she was dejected.
Chitragupt turned towards God for mercy. As the bright light touched the pleading she-soul, Chitragupt announced- “In all benevolence, God has accorded you very caring parents. This time there won’t be any family issues and you will be loved by all.”
The little angel smiled and happily took position inside her future mother. With God’s blessing she felt confident of finishing her mandatory time on the planet.
It has been 3 years since then. As day’s business was about to be closed, Chitragupt saw a toddler holding a doll approaching him. It was the same she-soul. Her frock was torn and face had marks of dried up tears. There were dark strains of blood between her tiny legs. As she stood there silently, Chitragupt glanced at the divine light. Aura of God dimmed a little further.
